Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: A compound of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are a 4-10C tertiary alkyl; R<3> is a 1-6C alkyl; X, Y and Z are each H, OH, a 1-4C alkoxy with the proviso that at least one of them is except H; (m) is 0 or 1) or its salt. EXAMPLE: 2,6-Bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4-(pentylthio)phenol. USE: A 5-lipoxygenase inhibitor. Useful for treating, controlling and alleviating allergy, inflammation, sensitivity reaction and related disorder and symptom. PROCESS: For example, a disubstituted mercaptophenol of formula II is alkylated with a proper alkylating agent to give a compound of formula I in which m=0 (thioether compound) and optionally oxidizing the compound to give a compound of formula I in which m=1 (sulfoxide compound).
