Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound inhibiting activity of ACAT derived from adrenal and useful as a therapeutic agent for arteriosclerosis and arterioscelerotic lesion.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R1 to R4 is H, lower alkyl or lower alkanoyl), e.g. (-)-α-epi(8)-bisabolol-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-methyl-β-D-mannopyranoside. This compound of formula I belongs to the genus Stachybotrys such as Stachybotrys elegans RF-4667 (FERM BP-3823) and is obtained by culturing a microorganism capable of producing a compound of formula II (R1 to R4 are H or lower alkanoyl), collecting the compound from a cultured medium and as necessary, subjecting the compound to hydrolysis, alkanoylation or alkylation.
