Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dual part polymerizable composition which contains a triorganoborane-amine complex, a polymerizable component, and acidified nanoparticles containing acid groups.SOLUTION: A dual part polymerizable composition is provided including a first part containing at least one triorganoborane-amine complex having the structure Z-NHR-B(R), where: Z is an organic group; Ris H or an organic group; and each Ris independently an organic group bound to the boron atom through a carbon atom. The composition also includes a second part containing a polymerizable component and acidified nanoparticles including acid groups, where each acidified nanoparticle includes an inorganic oxide core and acid groups. The acid groups include acid stabilizers and/or acid groups covalently bound to the inorganic oxide core through an organic group. Each inorganic oxide core is, e.g., silica, zirconia, or alumina. In the second part of the dual part polymerizable composition, the plurality of acidified nanoparticles contain free acid in an amount of no more than 50 wt.% of the acid groups.SELECTED DRAWING: None
