PURPOSE: To reduce the proliferation of adipocytes and the increase in body weight by administering angiotensin antagonists as inhibitors of the growth of adipose tissue. CONSTITUTION: Angiotensin II receptor in the cell membrane of adipocytes is used to inhibit an adipocyte angiotensin II receptor-blocking agent thereby reducing proliferation of adipocytes and increase in body weight. This is effective for treatment of diseases as adiposity or non-insulin-dependent diabetes. A compound of formula I (Ar is formula II; R is an alkyl; R is an alkyl; R is H, pyrrole) is active as the angiotensin II receptor-blocking agent.
