PURPOSE: To provide an anthelmintic for animal, containing a specific spiro- cyclic orthoester compound as an active component, and having remarkable anthelmintic effect to domestic animal and fowl.
CONSTITUTION: The objective anthelmintic contains the spiro-cyclic orthoester compound of formula I [group of formula II is formula III (R1 and R2 are H, OH or amino; R3 is OH or amino), etc.; group of formula IV is formula V, etc.] as an active component. Concrete example of the compound of formula I is methyl 2,3-0-[(1R)-6-amino-6-deoxy-L-glycero-D-gluocopyranoxylidene]-α-D-mannopyranoside of formula VI. The compound of formula I has remarkable anthel mintic effect to domestic animal and fowl, and nevertheless, is free from toxic effects such as anorexia, body reduction, etc. Preferably, 50W500g of the compound is added to 1t of feed.
