To rationally store an anti-panic spring of an anti-panic mechanism.
In a vehicle door latch device, the back of a spring energized lever 49 is superposed on the surface of a lock lever 41 in the surface contact state, and a shaft hole 86 of the lock lever 41 in which a lock shaft 40 is inserted is formed as a two-stage shaft hole so that a coil part 88 of the anti-panic spring 50 is stored in the upper large-diameter shaft hole 87, and a first leg part 89 of the anti-panic spring 50 engaged with the lock lever 41 is communicated with the large-diameter shaft hole 87 and stored in a first storing part 90 having the same depth as the large-diameter shaft hole 87. A fan-shaped shallow second storing part 92 for storing the second leg part 91 of the anti-panic spring 50 engaged with the spring energized lever 49 is formed on the surface side of the lock lever 41 or the back of the spring energized lever 49.
