Abstract:

To provide an apparatus provided with a specified structure and used for polymerizing an olefin in a vapor phase, whereby the polymer can be efficiently discharged from the apparatus, the rate of the reaction gas mixture discharged together with the polymer can be reduced, the stop of the discharge system can be prevented, and the use of a waste gas conduit system can be avoided.

The apparatus for polymerizing an olefin in a vapor phase comprises a cylindrical reactor 1 comprising a top 2 and a bottom containing a fluidized bed and having a vertical side wall and a fluidizing grid 4; an inlet chamber 9 being situated below the grid 4 and communicating with the reactor 1 through the grid 4; a path for introducing a catalyst through the side wall of the reactor 1; an internal conduit 5 through which the top 2 of the reactor communicates with the chamber 9, which is provided with a compressor 8 and at least one heat exchanger 6 or 7 and through which the reaction gas mixture is circulated; and at least one conduit 12 through which the side wall part communicates with a lock hopper 14 preceded by a shutdown valve 13 and through which the polymer is discharged (each conduit 12 extends downwardly from the vertical side wall of the reactor 1 at an angle A of 35-90° with respect to the horizontal plane).
