PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject apparatus which can well detect and separate foreign substances.
SOLUTION: This apparatus of a fiber processing machine (opening and picking machine) for detecting and separating foreign substances such as pieces of fabric, straps, strings, pieces of foil present in a fiber tuft mass removed from fiber bales by a bale opener. Therein, optical sensor systems 16', 16" for detecting the foreign substances are disposed, and a separator 24 for separating the foreign substances is disposed behind the optical sensor systems. The optical sensor systems are further connected to the separator through an analyzer and a controller 27. In order to simply enable the improvement in the detection and separation of the foreign substances, flocks are carried through a carrying pipe 9 with an air flow, and the optical sensor systems and the separator are disposed in the carrying pipe 9.
