To resolve a problem of limited capability of transmitting large amounts of torque, which causes instability at high speed and restricts practical application to low-speed and low-horsepower applications.
An apparatus for transferring torque magnetically comprises: a primary torque driving rotary member 120; and a secondary driven rotary member 122. The primary torque driving rotary member 120 has permanent magnets 119. The secondary driven rotary member 122 has electroconductive elements 116. The secondary driven rotary member 122 axially overlaps the primary torque driving rotary member 120. Means 124 is provided for varying the axial position of the primary torque driving rotary member 120 relative to the secondary driven rotary member 122. The apparatus causes rotation of the secondary driven rotary member 122 by some or all of lines of magnetic flux emanating from the permanent magnets 119 mounted on the primary torque driving rotary member 120.
