To obtain an aromatic polyamide composition suitable for e.g. films excellent in processability and travelability, having such a characteristic that the residuals extracted from the composition predominant in a specific aromatic polyamide with methanol stands at a specified level or lower relative to the pure water insolubles in the composition.
This composition has such a characteristic that the residuals extracted with methanol from the composition predominant in an aromatic polyamide composed of recurring unit of the formula CO-Ar1-CONH-Ar2-NH [Ar1 and Ar2 are each a divalent aromatic group and may bear substituent(s) differing from COX or NY on the aromatic ring; X is a halogen, OH or a 1-3C alkoxy; Y is H2, HSiR3 (R3 is a 1-4C alkyl), etc.] and dried at 200°C for one hour under a reduced pressure of 1mmHg stands at ≤5wt.% relative to the pure water insolubles in the composition.
