Abstract:

PURPOSE: To facilitate manufacture and to maintain good directional characteristics by making the first layer of acoustic matching layers respectively independent of every piezoelectric element, forming the second layer of the acoustic matching layers continuously on the first layer and letting the second layer be an elastic body for preventing acoustic coupling and suppressing a side lobe.

CONSTITUTION: The group of the piezoelectric elements 2 is provided on a backing material 1 and the mutually independent first layers 3a of the acoustic matching layers are provided on the surface. Then, the continuous second layers 3b of the acoustic matching layers are laminated on the first layers 3a. The second layer 3b is a rubber elastic body, for instance, a polyurethane resin whose hardness is approximately 60. Since a piezoelectric plate is cut from the first layer 3a, loads at the time of cutting are reduced and the cutting is facilitated. Also, since the second layer 3b is the rubber elastic body, the attenuation of ultrasonic waves in a plate surface direction (horizontal direction) is large and the acoustic coupling between the adjacent piezoelectric elements can be prevented. Thus, the good directional characteristics or the like can be maintained.
