To simplify inspection and repair by avoiding dew point corrosion in an inlet neighborhood of an air preheater, and to prevent deterioration of heat exchange effectiveness due to scale adhesion in an ash melting facility provided with an ash melting furnace of a thermit type or the like.
The air preheater 10 is installed for indirectly cooling exhaust gas of the ash melting furnace 2, and a chimney 14 is installed for discharging the exhaust gas indirectly cooled by the air preheater 10 to the atmosphere. A cooling air return pipe 26 is added for returning one part of cooling air after heat exchange in the air preheater 10 to a primary side of a cooling air blower 6. A combustion air return pipe 27 is added for returning one part of combustion air after heat exchange in the air preheater 10 to a primary side of a combustion air blower 7. By this, when the air temperature is low such as in the winter season, the cooling air and combustion air are returned to the air preheater 10, and inlet temperatures T1 and T2 of the cooling air and combustion air can be raised.
