PURPOSE: To prevent a stitched line intersecting with a sewing line from slipping out of position by a method wherein even when there is a rise of the stitched line in between the sewing line, sewing carried out while the rise of stitched line is held by an intermediate grip from the beginning.

CONSTITUTION: A sewing unit 34 with a fabric feeder is furnished on a table 1. An end grip 89 is provided free to move horizontally, and holds a piece of fabric so as to let the to edge of sewing part face the side of feeding the fabric to the sewing unit 34. An intermediate grip 99 is provided between the sewing unit 34 and the end grip 89 so as to freely move horizontally. The intermediate grip 99 holds the middle portion of the fabric held by the sewing unit 34 and the end grip 89, shifts the holding position toward the sewing unit 34 with the progress of sewing, and release the fabric at a position in the vicinity of the sewing unit 34. As a result, a stitched line intersecting with the sewing line is prevented from slipping out of position, so that high quality products can be stably produced with an precise finish.
