To obtain an automatic train control device capable of shortening transition time to normal operation even when a system of a radio function of a ground device or an on-vehicle device goes down, and to obtain a train control method.
The automatic train control device includes the ground device 7 having a calculation part 9 for calculating a stop target position, and the on-vehicle device 21 receiving the stop target position transmitted from the ground device 7, calculating a speed control pattern 16, and controlling a train speed. In the lead and rearmost of a train A, pick up coils 22, 23 for transmitting train identification information transmitted from the on-vehicle device 21 are installed. On a route, a wayside coil 29 having a receiving function for receiving the train identification information transmitted from the pick up coils 22, 23 is installed. The ground device 7 includes a train existing section managing part 10 managing the train identification information received by the wayside coil 29 and a train existing section 27 corresponding to a train length L having the wayside coil 29 substantially as its center when the pick up coil 22 passes the wayside coil 29.
