To reduce tensile force applied to a casing of an axial piston machine.

An axial piston pump 24 provided with a pump shaft 10, a cylinder 28, a piston 30 and a swash plate 32 is housed inside first and second half cases 42 and 43 connected to a valve plate 27 by means of a bolt 44. Hydraulic reaction applied to the cylinder 28 is transmitted to the second half case 43 through the valve plate 27. Hydraulic reaction applied to the piston 30 is transmitted to the first half case 42 through the swash plate 32. Tensile force is thus applied to the bolt 44. A helical gear 50 provided on the pump shaft 10 is meshed with the helical gear 49 supported on the valve plate 27, so that rightwise thrust force is generated on the pump shaft 10. This thrust force is transmitted to the first half case 42 from a ball bearing 46 for cancelling the tensile force.
