Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enhance greatly the accuracy in axis angle aligning of fusion spliced optical fibers for holding polarized waves. CONSTITUTION:When polarization maintaining optical fibers are fusion spliced, the cross-talk in the fusion spliced part is measured while the specified position of the fiber tip after fusion splicing is kept as it is, and a minute twist in the direction of correcting the misalignment of the axis angle is given to the fiber, and in this condition, the fusion spliced part is reheated. Thus axis angle alignment in fiber connecting is accomplished with high precision.
