To provide a battery charger capable of reducing not only standby power consumed while a battery to be charged is not attached but also standby power consumed after battery charging is completed.
Supply of power from a switching control circuit 14 which charges a battery 8 to subsequent-stage circuits is executed via a first switch SW1 which is turned on in connection with attaching of the battery 8 to the charger and a second switch SW2 which is turned on via a latch circuit 36 when the first switch SW1 is turned on. Furthermore, there is provided a timer circuit 40 which when the second switch SW2 is turned on, clocks a subsequent lapse time. When the timer 40 clocks a regulated time set in advance, the latch circuit 36 is reset to forcibly turn off the second switch SW2. As a result of this, a standby current flowing after the lapse of the regulated time is reduced, thereby enabling power saving of the charger.
