Abstract:

To provide a bone strength measuring device with excellent reliability and reproducibility, capable of automatically and precisely determining a desired range of measurement in measuring the bone strength, and securely irradiating the determined range with ultrasonic waves.

Preliminary measurement is implemented before main measurement by transmitting/receiving ultrasonic waves to/with a part 11 of a living body including a cancellous bone 12, and a measuring range M is set based on the result in the preliminary measurement. The main measurement is implemented on the measuring range, and a signal obtained from the main measurement is processed by a processing part. The bone strength measuring device obtains the information on the bone strength, and the like, in a part of the living body in this way. The bone strength measuring device finds an attenuation map expressing the degree of attenuation of ultrasonic transmission waves by processing the signal obtained in the preliminary measurement and determines whether a first wave with high velocity and a second wave with low velocity of the ultrasonic transmission waves can be discriminated and recognized. The measuring range in the main measurement is set based on this determination and the attenuation map.
