A couple of break edges 17, 18 each having a linear edge part are provided at the upper end of a break bar 10, and elastic members 12, 13 are provided on the sides of the break bar 10. When the break bar 10 is projected to a brittle material substrate having a scribe line, the elastic members 12, 13 are deformed, two edge parts serve as supporting points, and the brittle material substrate is divided without mutual pressing of parts just below the scribe line. Thereby, the cullet is reduced. Further, the cullet generated during dividing is sucked to a lower duct 14 and an upper duct 21 through a groove between the break edges 17, 18 and through holes 11a, 11b ..., 14a, 14b ... and 21a, 21b ..., and discharged.
