To start route guidance smoothly through researching after deviation from a route by determining a guide starting point from the distance required for starting guidance and the road information in the traveling direction depending on the vehicle speed when a vehicle has deviated from a route and then searching a route.
When display output and voice output processing of route guidance is being executed before arriving at a goal, current position of vehicle is acquired through automatic researching (S21), and a decision is made whether a vehicle has deviated from a route (S22) by matching the current position with a route to be guided. When a decision is made whether a vehicle has deviated from a route, route guidance is interrupted (S23) and the distance D along the road (the distance required before starting route guidance according to a researched route) is calculated based on the current traveling speed. A guidance starting point determining means sets a guidance starting point (S26) at point S separated forward from current position by the distance D along the road and then a route researching means researches the route (S27).
