An apparatus 10 for automatically treating pruned branches as a carbonization apparatus is constituted by mounting each section including a cutting section 30 and a carbonization section 36 on an automatically traveling vehicle body 12. The pruned blanches S as materials to be treated are fed to the cutting section 30 and cut to form cut materials Sb. These cut materials Sb are automatically fed to the carbonization section 36 and carbonized in the carbonization section 36 to form a carbonized product Sc. Since cutting is performed in the cutting section 30 before the carbonization in the carbonization section 36, pruned branches of relatively oversized materials to be treated can be effectively carbonized, and a series of treatments are automatically performed and can be performed while the apparatus self-advances and moves.
