To produce an inexpensive catalyst carrier for controlling the performance change with time of a catalyst.
Silicon carbide, an inorganic bonding material and at least one kind of oxide A selected from the group consisting of niobium oxide, antimony oxide and tungsten oxide or salt turned into the oxide A by burning are mixed and molded, and then the molded material thus prepared is burnt at 1200°C-1500°C to manufacture a catalyst carrier. An inorganic bonding component formed by burning silicon oxide and the inorganic bonding material and the oxide A are contained in the catalyst carrier, and performance change with time of the catalyst can be controlled. The mix molded material can be burnt at a comparatively low temperature and under an oxidizing atmosphere to control the manufacturing cost to the low level.
