Abstract:

To provide a catalyst for a polycondensation reaction which has high activity and thus is effective for curtailing the reaction time, and its production method; a polycondensed resin which is prepared by using the catalyst and is suitably usable as a binding resin for a toner; and an electrophotographic toner containing the polycondensed resin and having good flowability.

The catalyst consists of a compound obtained by bonding titanium to a pyrogallol compound having a benzene ring of which three hydrogen atoms adjacent to each other are each substituted by a hydroxyl group; and in other case, the catalyst consists of a compound obtained by reacting a titanium compound with a pyrogallol compound having a benzene ring of which three hydrogen atoms adjacent to each other are each substituted by a hydroxyl group. The production method of the catalyst is also provided. The polycondensed resin is obtained by polycondensing a raw material monomer in the presence of the catalyst. The electrophotographic toner contains the resin.
