Abstract:

PURPOSE: To maintain a good condition of a catalyzed chemical reaction and to enable an appropriate study of catalyst or the like by providing the system with a reaction chamber containing a solid catalyst which raw material in vapor phase is fed to and constituting the chamber so that the heat from a heat transfer fluid is transferred to the contents in the chamber.

CONSTITUTION: A temporal analysis-reactor system comprises an enclosure 1 which encloses a reactor 2 and a high speed valve 3 creating a very rapid pulse of reactant gas. A reactant gas 4 is fed to the valve 3 and the reactant gas leaving the valve 3 is mixed with continuous feed 6 in a mixing zone 5. A product pulse 7 which leaves the reactor 2 passes through an opening in a cryogenic plate 8 and passes through adjustable slits 9 to produce a resolved product pulse 10. The pulse 10 enters an ionization chamber 11 of a quadrupole mass analyzer 12. The quadrupole mass analyzer scans the resolved product pulse for the mass designated in the mass spectrometer electronics 13. The resulting signal is sent through an averager 14 to a computer 17 where a plotter 18 is controlled to plot the results.
