Title:
CHARACTER RECOGNIZING DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3245241
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To recognize longitudinal, medial, and lateral characters by calculating the similarities of respective separated character patterns to a standard pattern and employing a character pattern having a higher similarity between patterns before and after the separation as an optimum candidate character.
CONSTITUTION: An operator reads a set document image through an input part 2 and inputs it to a memory 5. The memory 5 is used as the work area of a central processor 3 and has an area wherein the document image data inputted from the input part 2 are stored and an area wherein the position and size of a character pattern segmented by a preprocessing part 7 are stored. Then geometrical features are extracted from the pattern preprocessed by the preprocessing part 7 and collated with standard patterns previously stored in a RAM 9 for a dictionary for recognition, namely, compared with the similarities of the segmented character pattern to the standard patterns are compared to determine the character pattern having the high similarity as the optimum candidate character, so that a recognition part 8 recognizes the document image.
