Title:
CHLORINATION OF SUCROSE DERIVATIVE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH02167293
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a chlorinated product of sucrose (deriv.) in high yield by reacting sucrose (deriv.) with thionyl chloride and a nitrogen base under a specific condition.

CONSTITUTION: Sucrose (deriv.) is reacted with 1 mol equivalent of thionyl chloride and 1 mol equivalent of a nitrogen base with respect to all of free OH groups thereof in a non-reactive solvent having proper polarity (pref., 1,1,2- trichloroethane) to chlorinate sucrose (deriv.) As the nitrogen base, (alkyl) pyridine is pref. The reaction is pref. performed at environmental temp. at first under atmospheric pressure while a pyridine soln. of sucrose (deriv.) is gradually added to a non-reactive solvent soln. of thionyl chloride and subsequently performed at reflux temp. to the end.
