PURPOSE: To provide a color liquid crystal display device free from the nonuniformity of display due to the variation of thickness by laminating a photosensitive film on a part corresponding to a black matrix part on a substrate, exposing in pattern form and developing to form a spacer.
CONSTITUTION: The grid shaped black matrixes 1 are obtained by forming chromium metal on the glass substrate by sputtering and etching by the use of a photoresist. After that, patterns 5 of red, green and blue are formed. An acrylic resin is formed thereon as a protective layer to make flat. The photosensitive film is laminated on the heated substrate. Next, the spacer is formed by exposing through a negative mask having the prescribed pattern, removing a polyethylene terephthalate and developing with a Na2CO3 aq. solution. The color liquid crystal display device is produced by laminating an electrode substrate on the substrate provided with the spacer and sealing with a sealing material to enclose the liquid crystal.
