PURPOSE: To form an excellent color projected image by making illuminating distribution in respective liquid crystal display parts constant and the brightness of the liquid crystal display parts the same.
CONSTITUTION: This projector is provided with a 1st separation mirror 14 which is arranged at an equal distance from the 1st liquid crystal display part G and the 2nd liquid crystal display part B and separates light beams LG and LB which are respectively made to pass through both of the display parts, and a 2nd separation mirror 10 which is arranged at such a position that distances from the 1st liquid crystal display part G, the 2nd liquid crystal display part B and the 3rd liquid crystal display part R are equal and separates the light beams LG and LB given to the 1st mirror 14 and a light beam LR which is made to pass through the display part B. Therefore, distance between a light source 20 and the display part G, between the light source 20 and the display part B, and between the light source 20 and the display part R become equal, and the illuminating distribution in the display parts G, R and B are made uniform. Thus, the excellent color projected image is obtained.
