Title:
COMPONENT OF CATALYST FOR OLEFIN POLYMERIZATION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5670004
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled catalyst component giving a highly crystalline polymer without necessitating the removal of catalyst residue and amorphous polymer, by contacting a magnesium halide with an electron donor and a halogen- containing titanium compound in the presence of sulfur.

CONSTITUTION: Powdery sulfur and a magnesium halide are mixed and crushed in an inert gas atmosphere, and dispersed in a medium such as n-heptane. An electron- donor (e.g. ethyl benzoate) is added to the dispersion, and subjected to the thermal reaction. After the reaction, the product is filtered, washed, dispersed in a halogen- containing titanium compound (e.g. titanium tetrachloride), and subjected to the contact treatment under heating to obtain the objective catalyst component. An olefin polymerization catalyst can be prepared by combining the component thus prepared with an organo-metallic compound containing a metallic element of the IWIII group of the periodic table (e.g. trialkylaluminum).
