Abstract:
To provide components that can include both "off the shelf" and customized components that can serve one or more of functional, structural, and aesthetic purposes, within or as part of a transportation structure.SOLUTION: Techniques for inlaying composite material within a tooling shell are disclosed. In one aspect, an additively manufactured tooling shell is provided into which the composite material is inlaid and cured. Indentation or another mechanism is provided on the surface of the tooling shell to enable adhesion between the composite material and the tooling shell. The resulting integrated structure is used as a component in the transport structure.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
