Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for use in the production of commercial foods and skin products, the composition consisting of S-equol, R-equol, or a mixture comprising a non-racemate and racemate of S-equol and R-equol.SOLUTION: The composition can be used for producing commercial products, such as food supplements, pharmaceuticals, and pharmaceutical compositions. The composition is useful for methods of administering S-equol to the mammals in order to prevent or treat diseases or related conditions comprising cardiovascular disease, lipid disorder, osteopenia, osteoporosis, liver disease, and hormone-dependent diseases, such as acute lack of ovarian estrogen. The S-equol enantiomer can be produced from isoflavone metabolism by biosynthesis with microorganisms.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
