Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a constitutive member of gland packing suitably usable in a spiral or annular shape as the gland packing, and capable of exhibiting the extremely superior seal function.
SOLUTION: This constitutive member of the gland packing is a braided string 8 braided in a spiral shape by using a plurality of knitting yarn. In this braided string 8, elastic yarn 51c extending in the lengthwise direction of the braided string 8 without entangling with the knitting yarn, and having elasticity higher than the knitting yarn is penetratingly arranged in a braided layer part 8A on the outer peripheral surface 8b side from a reference surface X-X parallel to inner and outer peripheral surfaces 8b and 8c by passing through at least the cross-sectional center 80 of the braided string 8. A plurality of elastic yarn 81c are arranged in a parallel state parallel to the outer peripheral surface 8b of the braided string 8 in a cross section of the braided string 8. A cross-sectional shape of the braided string 8 is a square shape. Core yarn 51a ands 51b extending in the lengthwise direction of the braided string 8 are penetratingly arranged in respective corner pars without entangling with the knitting yarn.
