PURPOSE: To speed up the combustion velocity by making squish area corresponding to 30W50% of the inner wall area of cylinder in a combustion chamber in which turning flow is produced by squish flow between the bulging portion of piston and the flat portion of cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: Squash flow F is produced between an annular flat portion 13 on the top surface of piston and the flat surfaces 12b,12c of inner wall of cylinder head, and squish flow G produced between the back surface 18 of bulging portion 17 of piston and the lower side wall surface 16a of bulging portion 16 of cylinder head. When fuel is sucked from an intake inlet 6 to raise the piston 2, the fuel is affected by squash flow H caused by the resultant flow of the squish flows F,G and squish flow I caused by a groove 19 to provide heavy turning flow in the direction of arrow K about the horizontal line for speeding up the propagation velocity of flame. The area of squish areas S,T are preferably 30W50% of the sum of the inside wall area of cylinder head and bore area.
