PURPOSE: To prevent a pump load from increasing so as to improve operational property by controlling a line pressure based on engine torque information and also down shift-correcting a speed change in the case of engine torque lower than that during normal time.

CONSTITUTION: In a target line pressure calculating unit 58, a necessary line pressure, set in a setting unit 56, is corrected so as to be increased when torque is decreased, to set a target line pressure based on engine torque information from an engine control unit 39, and a pump load and friction are prevented from increasing. When the engine torque is decided lower than that during normal time by a torque condition judging unit 61, drive power is compensated by correcting a target primary pulley rotational speed obtained in a retrieving unit 46 by a correcting unit 62 and by setting target speed change ratio, calculated in a calculating unit 47, to a downshift side. In this way, improvement in operational property can be contrived.
