Title:
COPOLYMER LATEX AND COMPOSITION FOR COATED PAPER, CONTAINING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3681220
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a copolymer latex useful for producing a composition for a coated paper, having a specific particle diameter distribution and electron charge density, low in viscosity, excellent in stability and fluidity, by subjecting a prescribed monomer mixture to emulsion polymerization.
SOLUTION: This latex is obtained by subjecting 100 pts.wt. of a monomer mixture comprising (A) 5-55 pts.wt. of an aliphatic diene-based monomer, (B) 0.5-10 pts.wt. of an ethylene-based unsaturated monomer and (C) 35-94.5 pts.wt. of another copolymerizable monomer to emulsion copolymerization. The particles of the latex are controlled so that the particle diameter (Dn) corresponding to the peak of the minimum particle diameter component in a particle diameter distribution based on number is ≤100nm, the particle diameter (Dw) corresponding to the peak top of the maximum particle diameter component in a particle diameter distribution based, on weight is ≤60nm, the particle diameter distributions satisfy the relation ship Dn+15<Dw and the density of carboxyl existing in the surface of the particles is regulated to 1.2 to 2.5 particles/(nm)2.
