Abstract:
To provide a novel copolymer that is expected to be an optical film excellent in retardation characteristics such as having a high retardation even in a thin film state, and an optical film using the copolymer.SOLUTION: The copolymer comprises: a unit A having a benzene ring residue unit and a polar group (a cyano group, an ester group, an amide group or an acyl group) residue unit; a unit B having an m-membered heterocyclic residue containing at least one hetero atom or a five-membered ring residue or a six-membered ring residue containing no hetero atoms; and an alkyl (meth)acrylate unit C having a linear alkyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a branched alkyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms or a cyclic alkyl group having 3 to 6 carbon atoms.SELECTED DRAWING: None
