To adopt a power supply method of setting only a partial carriage to become the power source side, for power supply for driving/controlling a belt conveyor, in a cross belt sorter without reversing the carriage between upper-lower horizontal areas of a guide passage.
In this cross belt sorter, a plurality of carriages 3 driven for traveling without reversing along a circulating travel passage having a straight line travel passage of upper-lower two layers, form a row by being rotatably supported around the orthogonal axis in the traveling direction in a connecting support part 34 by an endless flexible body 2. The respective carriages have a driven-controlled conveyor device and a connecting part 35 arranged in a connecting support part. A partial carriage of a carriage row becomes a power source carriage for driving and controlling the conveyor device having a current collecting shoe 37 contacting with a power supply rail along the straight line travel passage. Its electric power is supplied by electric wires L1 and L4 connecting the current collecting shoe 37 and the conveyor device connected by the connecting part, and is supplied to the other carriage by electric wires L3 and L5 connecting the mutual carriages connected by a slip ring of the connecting part.
