To obtain a crosslinked ethylene polymer which has excellent mechanical properties, does not emit mol odor after crosslinking, and is free from blooming of solids on the surface by using a masterbatch prepared by mixing an ethylene polymer with a peroxide and heating the mixture.
A peroxide represented by the formula (wherein R1 and R2 are each a 3-6C alkyl) in an amount of 0.5-20 pts.wt. is used as a crosslinker for 100 pts.wt. ethylene polymer. In one method, a crosslinked ethylene polymer is produced by directly mixing and kneading an ethylene polymer with a crosslinker and heating the resultant mixture. In another method, a masterbatch prepared by mixing an ethylene polymer with 100 pts.wt. carrier (e.g. silica, clay or calcium stearate) and 0.5-20 pts.wt. peroxide is mixed and kneaded with an ethylene polymer and the resultant mixture is heated.
