Abstract:

PURPOSE: To density and strengthen a homogeneous mixture of SiC powders, metal-contg. sintering aids, organopolysiloxane curing agents and preceramicorganopolysiloxne by sintering the mixture in an inert atmosphere after the mixture is molded.

CONSTITUTION: The SiC powders of ≤5 μ average grain size, the 0.1 to 3.0 wt.% metal-contg. sintering auxiliary agent (example: Y2O3), the 0.1 to 5.0 wt.% organopolysiloxane curing agent (example: dicumyl peroxide) and the preceramicorganopolysilaxane of ≥40 wt.% carbonized ceramic yield are mixed together to obtain the homogeneous mixture of ≥0.2 wt.% free-carbon value. Next, an unprocessed body, which is obtd. by press molding this homogeneous mixture into a desired shape at a temp. of ≤500°C, is sintered by heating at a temp. of ≥1900°C in an inert atmosphere to obtain a Si sintered body of ≥2.4 g/cm3 density.
