Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping assembly for use in a device having moving aerodynamic surfaces.SOLUTION: A damping assembly 10 includes: a first component 11 comprising a back iron 14 and at least one permanent magnet 12, the at least one permanent magnet 12 providing a first magnetic field; and an electrically conductive second component 13. The second component 13 and the first component 11 are positioned coaxially about a central axis 15 while the at least one permanent magnet 12 is positioned between the back iron 14 of the first component 11 and the second component 13. The assembly 10 further includes a means for rotating one or both of the at least one permanent magnet 12 of the first component 11 and the second component 13 about the central axis 15 to cause relative rotational movement between the at least one permanent magnet 12 and the second component 13, to thereby induce a variable magnetic flux in the second component 13 and cause eddy currents therein.
