Title:
DECOMPOSITION OF POLYSACCHARIDE BY IRRADIATION WITH CO2 LASER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01224386
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain saccharides which are used as a diet food, because of its difficult digestiveness, by irradiating polysaccharides with CO2 laser to melt the saccharide and cause fission of the bonds between monosaccharides without increase of hydroxyl groups.

CONSTITUTION: So-called polysaccharides such as starch or cellulose are compressed and placed on the bed 13 and irradiated with CO2 laser, as the defocus value is determined and the bed is rotated, so that the polysaccharides are melted to cause fission of the bonds between monosaccharide units. Thus, the polysaccharides are decomposed without increase in hydroxyl groups to give a low-molecular compound soluble in water.
