Abstract:

PURPOSE: To conduct automatically the classification decision of tires by providing a tire classification deciding means to decide the classification of tires mounted on a vehicle on the basis of resonant frequency.
CONSTITUTION: Resonant frequency is operated at an ECU 4 by extracting the signals of resonant frequency elements out of signals containing the vibration frequency elements of tires 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, and on the basis of this resonant frequency, the classification decision of tires 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d and the decision of the weight of wheels on which the tires 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d are mounted, are conducted. A tire air pressure drop deciding value is set from both decision results, and the state of tire air pressure is detected by comparing it with the resonant frequency. The resonant frequency changes in accordance with a tire spring constant that is substantially dependent on tire air pressure alone. Also, tire air pressure-resonant frequency characteristic changes according to tire classification, and at the same time changes according to the weight of wheels on which tires are mounted.
