To obtain a detergent which does not contain an environmental pollutant and comprises simple ingredients by using a salt comprising a specific cation and a specific anion as the main ingredient.
This detergent contains a salt comprising a cation selected from among sodium, potassium, and rubidium ions and an anion selected from among hydroxide, carbonate, and oxalate ions and has a pH of 9.0 or higher, pref. 10-12, and a concn. of 1×10-5 mol/l or higher. If necessary, 1/3 pt. mixture of 1 mol of EDTA.4Na salt with up to 2 mol of potassium hydroxide and/or sodium hydroxide or 1/2 pt. mixture of 1 mol of citric acid with 2-5 mol of potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide is added to 1 pt. detergent above- mentioned. Thus is obtd. a detergent which comprises simple inorg. ingredients and does not contain an environmental pollutant such as a synthetic surfactant, a phosphorus compd., or a long-chain fatty acid at all.
