To provide a structure with a PFC circuit capable of preventing unusual increase in DC voltage and sufficiently increasing the DC voltage when an input voltage is large.
A device for driving a motor of a washing machine according to the present embodiment comprises: a first rectifying circuit connected to an alternating-current power supply via a reactor; a switching element configured to make a short circuit between output terminals of the first rectifying circuit; and a second rectifying circuit connected in parallel to the first rectifying circuit. The device further comprises: an inverter circuit connected to an output side of the second rectifying circuit and configured to drive a drum drive motor, an inverter circuit connected to the output side of the second rectifying circuit and configured to drive a compressor; and a short-circuit control means for short-circuiting the switching element and reducing a harmonic component. The short-circuit control means reduces the short-circuit time of the switching element when the inverter circuit configured to drive the drum drive motor is operated and the inverter circuit configured to drive the compressor is not operated.
