PURPOSE: To provide a new compound having a photochromic property excellent in thermal stability, repetition durability, semiconductor laser susceptibility and sensitivity, etc., of its colored state and suitable for an optical recording material, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A compound having a structure of formula I (n is an integer of 2 to 5; l and m are each an integer of 0, l or 2; R1 and R3 are each an alkyl; R2 and R4 are each H, an alkyl, a dialkylamino, cyano, nitro or an alkoxy; A and B are each an aromatic or a heterocycle), e.g. 1,2-bis[5-(4- methoxyphenyl)-2,4-dimethyl-3-thienyl]-3,3,4,4,5,5-hexafluorocyclopentene of formula II. This compound can be obtained, e.g. by synthesizing 3-iodo-5(4- methoxyphenyl)-2,4-dimethylthiophene of formula III from p-iodoanisole, etc., as the raw materials, adding tetrahydrofuran (THF) thereto, cooling it, subsequently adding an n-butyllithiumhexane solution dropwise thereto, then adding a THF solution of perfluorocyclopentene dropwise thereto, subsequently adding water and extracting it with ethyl acetate.
