To obtain a new di(meth)acrylate compound which is useful as i) a liquid crystal composition which is polymerizable around at room temperature and shows liquid crystal phase at low temperature and ii) a liquid material having tolerance against heat and solvents.
The compound shown by formula I (R1 and R2 are each H or methyl; (l) and (t) are 0 or 1; rings A to D are each an aromatic or alicyclic 6-membered ring, a heterocyclic 6-membered ring, or the like; Z1 to Z3 are each directly linked, CH2O, OCH2 or the like; (n), (p), (q), and (r) are 0 or 1) (e.g. formula II) is obtained by dissolving 4-acryloyloxyphenol, 4-(2- acryloyloxyethoxy)benzoic acid, and 4-dimethylaminopyridine in dichloromethane, adding a dichloromethane solution of N, N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide dropwise with stirring at room temperature for 1 hour to react, removing insoluble matter by filtration after the reaction, evacuating the solvent from the obtained filtrate, purified with a silica gel column, followed by recrystallization with methanol.
