To prevent print quality from deteriorating by feeding a coil intermittently with a minimum necessary release current and decreasing the release current being fed to the coil thereby preventing generation of heat and energy consumption of the coil from increasing while sustaining the printing force of a print hammer.
When a release current is fed intermittently to a coil 7 at a dot print hammer mechanism section, the current is interrupted temporarily at an almost flying timing and the necessary current can be reduced when a current 15 fed again. More specifically, the current is interrupted temporarily while floating the dot print hammer slightly from a nonprint position with the initial current supply, the dot print hammer can be released completely even if the magnitude of current being fed next is smaller than that of a conventional current. Since total current consumption can be reduced as compared with a conventional one, generation of heat from the coil can be prevented from increasing.
