PURPOSE: To enable driving of some driven body by composing a portion of the wall face of a box body defining an enclosed space of a flexible film body then encapsulating magnetic fluid in the enclosed box body and applying traveling wave type magnetic field onto the magnetic fluid thus employing a driving principle different from that for conventional drive source.
CONSTITUTION: Upon formation of magnetic field in cores 24, 24, magnetic fluid 14, 14a encapsulated in enclosed box bodies 10, 10a is subjected to magnetic influence at positions corresponding to the cores 24 and deformed. Since pulse width modulated current is applied onto respective pairs of core 24, strength of magnetic field to be applied onto the magnetic fluid 14, 14a varies with time. Consequently, flexible carbon fibers 12, 12a contacting with the magnetic fluid 14, 14a deform in response to the deformation of the magnetic fluid 14, 14a thus inducing traveling wave, as a whole, in the carbon fibers 12, 12a.
