To provide a drum type washing machine capable of eliminating the need of time and power for operating a tub cleaning course separate from washing.
The drum type washing machine includes: a drum 4 rotatably provided in a water tub 3; a motor 9 configured to rotationally drive the drum; a water supply device 10 configured to supply water to the water tub; a drainage device 22 configured to drain washing water in the water tub; a tub cleaning device 15 configured to clean an inner surface of the water tub; and control means 23 for controlling the respective processes of washing, rinsing and dewatering. The control means is designed to clean an inner surface of the water tub by the tub cleaning device during washing in which laundry is loaded in the drum, and is capable of washing out dirt attached to the inner surface of the water tub 3 during washing and keeping the inner surface of the water tub 3 clean.
