To provide a drum type washing machine having excellent peeling property of a wash.
Within an outer box 2, a water tub 7 the rotation axis of which is positioned on an axis lowering backward is provided. Within the water tub 7, a drum 12 rotatable about the axis is provided. On the back surface side within the drum 12, an agitator 22 rotatable about the axis is provided. The agitator 22 includes an peeling arm portion 23 extending toward the front surface side along the lateral surface of the inner periphery of the drum 12. On the exterior of the back surface side of the water tub 7, a motor 11 and a clutch mechanism portion 24 are provided. The clutch mechanism portion 24 is switched between a first state where the torque of a motor 11 is transmitted to the drum 12 and the agitator 22 and a second state where the torque of a motor is transmitted to the agitator 22. After a spin-drying step is finished, the clutch mechanism portion 24 is switched to the second state so that all the wash collected and adhering to the inner surface of a peripheral wall on the back surface side of the drum 12 by the spin-drying step are peeled off by the peeling arm portion 23 of the agitator 22.
